Selkirk, Scotland

Selkirk, Scotland

What happened while I was asleep in the car I have no idea.  Last I remember we landed in Manchester, waited at the airport for our hire car, that didn’t arrive until two hours later (don’t ever hire from easirent).  I thought I was headed for the bright lights of downtown Manchester but ended up in Selkirk just outside of Hawick.  Hawick’s claim to fame is the fact it is the capital of Cashmere and that is about as exciting as it gets here.

I suppose that’s what happens when you travel with old people you come to these obscure seriously old places.  And when I say old it’s just not the buildings I am talking about.  We went to see Sir Walter Scott’s Court House today and there wasn’t anything there under 90 years old including the people walking around and the town was no different. It feels like an elephant’s graveyard around here.

We are staying at a lovely old B&B called Heatherlie House Hotel for five nights and already I have met a new BFF called Natasha, she is the daughter of the owners (aged 7).  And we hit it off big time the first night here so it should be fun.

Apparently Hawick is where grannies mummy used to live so we are catching up with some of grannies old friends and going over old times.  Did I mention it is old around here.
