Rocascalegna, Abruzzo, Italy

Out for my pasegiata (afternoon walk for the non-cosmipolitan people reading this) with mum and dad and my italian cousins.

This is the town where my Nonna was born.  There is a castle here high on top of a hill and in the olden days and I mean the really olden days, like more than five years ago, when the Baron ruled over all the lands the only way to access the castle was by a wooden ladder.

Now in Italy a castle is called a 'rocca' a wooden ladder 'scalla di legna' so they called Nonna's town Rocascalegna.   The castle with the wooden ladder.

Now if you find that bit of history/trivia interesting you must be seriously old because that story bored me to death,  I wonder what Madonna is doing today she's from Abbruzzo. That's the sort of stuff I want to know.
