Ripon, North Yorkshire, UK

Today we were blessed by a very special day.  The sun was shinning.
So we went to Fountains Abbey.   One of the largest and best preserved in England (? - the place is a mess) it ws founded in 1132.  The abbey operated for 400 years until 1539 (adds up to 407 years - just shows historians aren't mathmatetians), when Henry VIII ordered the dissolution of the Monastries ( Henry and Cromwell must have had a bee in their bottom because every time I read some English history those two blokes are destroying a building somewhere in the UK).
I still remain mystified, how old people are constantly drawn to old decrepit things all the time.
Do you think we can find something that is less than a thousand years old, some time soon,  I'll take anything at this stage.
Deep down though, and I will never admit it to the olds, even me, a hip young Gen Now chick actually had a lovely relaxing day walking through the ruins. Shhhhhh........
