Ripon, North Yorkshire, UK
So we finally get to go to a classy black tie event known as the Angels Dinner held in the Ripon Cathedral itself.
(A church on the site is thought to date from 672, when it is believed to have been the second stone building erected in the Anglo-Saxon Kingdom of Northumbria. The crypt dates from this period. People have been coming to worship and pray at Ripon for more than 1,350 years).
Anyway the who's who of Ripon and North Yorkshire attend this dinner with five star dining supported by songs from the Ripon Cathedral Choir. On the night the MC publicly thanked Lord Crathorn (Lord Lieutenant of North Yorkshire - effectively the queens replacement when she isnt around, quasi our Governor General) for attending also Baroness Angela Harris (high steward of Cathedral), Cyrille Tricart (Director of the Tour de France - Which starts in Yorkshire next year and goes though Ripon).
And then he thanked mum and dad for attending the event all the way from Australia. Fancy that mum and dad in the same league as Lords and Baronesses and all they did to earn this praise is sit on a 20 hour flight and get lost on the motorways of England.
Granny didn't get a mention for her efforts, and me, they left me at home asleep and didnt tell me anything about the black tie event. Why does this always happen to me.
All in all they tell me it was a wonderful end to memorable day for us and a lovely last toast to my granddad Donald Flinn.
